Protect

The push against Globalisation has allies on both from both social liberals and social conservatives. The idea of self-determination was a progressive principle that came from Woodrow Wilson as many new nations were formed, breaking from the age of empires. Wilson's 14 points were an attempt to create peace after World War I. Roosevelt pushed this forward after World War II with the Atlantic Charter. This inconsistency with the European Empires kicked the formal decolonisation of Africa into full gear. Globalisation has ties to colonialism. Those on the left fear empire like domination of minority cultures. A steamroller of standardisation. From the right, there is a determination to protect their identities from change. Self-determination was a founding principle of both the United Nations and of Apartheid South Africa.
